Biography

Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

What do you want to see change/improve in NMB?

Simply put - we need to get back our pride in our City

Why did you join AIM?

Initially I put my hand up to stand as an independent in the 'safe for others' Ward 7 and then experienced an epiphany when reading that Mkhuseli Jack's AIM for the City aligned with my own thought - almost like a NON POLITICAL political party dedicated to service and making the City work.

To Date: Running many community web sites, marketing for Straton Electrical, Straton Solar, BA Systems, AB Marine Whale Watching and Reach Trust.

During the above I also found time to do many vocation specific courses, teach myself how to code, do training specific short courses and complete many online marketing and SEO courses.

1999-2003: Set up sail training course with Lovelife at ABYC
2002: National Optimist Class Secretary.
2002: Part of the team that hosted the African Optimist Championships
2003-2005: ABYC Secretary
2004: MyPE established for Port Elizabeth
2005: Part of the team that organised the Hobie 16 World Championships
2007: Part of the team that hosted the Mirror World Championships
2008-2009: Sailing Commodore ABYC
2009: Manager of Lipton Cup Team
