Communications
Mandla Tyala is a seasoned communications practitioner with extensive experience in the public service and private sector.
An award-winning journalist, he started his career as a news reporter in Port Elizabeth before going on to hold senior editorial positions at the Sunday Times and the Financial Mail.
He also worked as a visiting writer at the USA Today newspaper in Washington DC. He also attended career advancement programmes at Harvard University and the Poynter Institute for Media Studies in the US.
He then made a professional detour to corporate communications where he held leadership positions at companies such as Telkom, CSIR and Central Energy Fund.
In government he was head of communications at the RDP Ministry in the Office of the President and was Spokesperson for the City of Cape Town.
He is currently the Managing Trustee of the Madiba Bay Music Initiative, a not-for-profit organisation which contributes to community development through the arts and music.
